Horns is an upcoming horror, fantasy and thriller movie directed by Alexandre Aja, built on Joe Hill's novel of the same name. It stars Daniel Radcliffe as Ig Perrish. Accused of the rape and murder of his girlfriend, he uses newly discovered mystical abilities in his pursuit to uncover the real killer.
Horns, a supernatural thriller driven by fantasy, mystery and romance, follows Ig Perrish (Radcliffe), the number one suspect for the violent rape and murder of his girlfriend. Hungover from a night of hard drinking, Ig awakens one morning to find horns starting to grow from his own head and soon understands their power drives people to confess their sins and give in to their most selfish and disgusting impulses – an effective tool in his quest to discover the true circumstances of his late girlfriend’s tragedy and for exacting revenge on her killer.
Ig is a personality of repeated and tragic misfortune. He comes from a family of musicians, but despite his own musical talent Ig’s severe asthma stops him from actually being able to play the horns like his famous father and brother. His lady friend and one true love, Merrin Williams (Juno Temple) is brutally raped and murdered, and everyone in Ig’s home town becomes convinced that he was the culprit. On the first anniversary of Merrin’s death, Ig wakes up to find that he has grown a pair of bony, sensitive horns on his head that compel everyone he meets to say and do the utter worst things on their mind.
Director Alexandre Aja (Haute Tension) had some exciting material to handle with Horns, which walks a bold line between tragedy and comedy and paints a very dark portrayal of human nature alongside its flawed but touching love story. Because of the potential in the source material, this was one of Screen Rant’s most highly-anticipated horror movies of 2013; with affirmative reviews already coming out after its screening at TIFF, Horns remains a movie that looks worth seeing in theaters.
