The Judge Movie History:
The Judge is an upcoming American comedy-drama film directed by David Dobkin. "The Judge" opens nationwide Oct. 10, but Heartland Film Festival will present an advance screening Oct. 4 at AMC Castleton Square 14. Dobkin will attend and answer questions from the audience after the film. The director said he selected Indiana as the film's setting because the story promotes "small-town values."
Dobkin said he grew up in a small town in Maryland "that became a big town. It was really sad to me that I lost those memories of riding my bike to the candy store." The Judge follows big shot lawyer Hank Palmer (Downey Jr.) who reluctantly returns to his childhood home in small town Indiana when his mother dies. There, he discovers that his estranged father (Robert Duvall), the town’s judge, is being investigated for murder.
So the man who walked away from his family years ago now finds himself having to reconnect with the man he’s tried to avoid. Frosty initial relations eventually give way to more of an understanding as better memories flow, but there’s also the small matter of keeping dad from going to jail.
"The Judge" includes overhead footage of Indiana cornfields, and copies of The Indianapolis Star are prominently visible in two scenes. When traveling from Chicago, Hank flies into Evansville Regional Airport..
